The Seeing is Believing by Standard Chartered programme makes eye care accessible to low and middle income communities in their fight against avoidable blindness. In India, we have opened 135 vision centers across 22 states and have conducted 2.36 million cataract surgeries and dispensed close to 1,97,000 spectacles overall benefitting close to 14 million people since the inception of Seeing is Believing by Standard Chartered programme. We plan to declare 3000 villages blindness free and open 200 vision centres over the next 2 years, with the first batch of 90 opening by December 2020. These vision centres are expected to benefit 6.8 million people.
WASHE (Water Sanitation Hygiene and Education) aims at providing access to clean water, sanitation and education to adolescent girls in municipal schools and disadvantaged communities at large. By our water resource management projects in drought prone areas, we have provided clean drinking water through 64 solar water ATMs across 7 states. Over the next three years, we will support 75 villages, half of which will be in aspirational districts, spread over the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and impact the lives of an additional 1,50,000 people.
Futuremakers by Standard Chartered is our global initiative that focuses on enabling the next generation to learn, earn, and grow.
We are helping provide education and life skills to over 1,30,000 adolescent girls through different quality delivery models. Helping build capacity in the Eye Health sector is an important agenda for us. We are creating a workforce of high-quality eye care professionals to combat blindness and visual impairment in India through classroom teaching and other online platforms. We are also looking to set up 10 career academies across India to help gain skills in the BFSI sector, future employability.
Through our work in the communities, we have touched the lives of 4 million Indians. Here are some stories that we are extremely proud of.
Employee volunteering is fundamental to our Bank’s culture. Every employee is offered three days of full pay leave to volunteer during working hours.

"The Standard Chartered Bank-Teach for India partnership has helped us tremendously as we work towards our vision to provide an excellent education for all children. A remarkable feature of the partners hip has been the extension beyond the boardroom to the employees, Fellows and students' lives. Standard Chartered Bank employees have committed many hours in our classrooms. The recent Financial Literacy training conducted by your Finance Team using the student-friendly RBI Comic-books in our classrooms in Mumbai is a brilliant example of how the employees shared their wisdom to provide exposure to our students who would transfer the learnings in their communities on the various Financial tools available. I am grateful to Karuna and the Standard Chartered Bank team for their investment in us and our children. On behalf of my team, thank you very much and we look forward to having you as our crucial champion as we aspire to infuse 5000 leaders in the ecosystem by 2022-23."

"Akanksha's foray into improving the Public-School education system began around 10 years ago. Our aim is to help parents from the poorest communities who struggle to make ends meet, dream of a brighter future and hope for a better life for their children. Our school practices and strategies focus on building positive and memorable experiences for children and this is possible only because of the belief and trust that our partners have in us. Standard Chartered Bank supports two of our schools in Mumbai and we have been able to implement innovative instruction strategies, introduce a variety of after-school programs, provide our teachers the necessary training and professional development and partner with the parents of our students to impact the wider community. Without the generous support of the entire team at Standard Chartered, we would not be able fulfil the dreams of hundreds of our students and their parents."
